The Hartmans lost Buddy the black lab after their home was destroyed by the fires in San Diego in 2007.
The fires destroyed 1,500 homes, burned thousands of acres of land and killed nine people.
The reunion happened by chance while the John and his wife, who have since moved to Oklahoma, were visiting their son in San Diego.
The Department of Animal Services called with the news that Buddy had been found. Officials say Buddy was probably taken care of for all those years, but then must’ve gotten loose.
Buddy was found running through a neighborhood at the end of March. Animal Services scanned him for a microchip which matched him with the Hartmans. The now 10-year-old dog was reunited with his rightful owners April 1.
John, his wife and buddy are all together now at home here in Oklahoma.
