Authorities say a man in a Wal-Mart store reportedly waved a rifle at customers, including children and was fatally shot by police when he wouldn't drop the weapon.
The man shot Tuesday night was identified Wednesday by police as 22-year-old John Crawford.
He died at a hospital.
It's unclear why Crawford had the weapon in the store.
A statement from police didn't address Crawford's motives or provide further details about him.
Authorities say a customer also died after suffering a medical problem during the evacuation of the store.
Police identified her as 37-year-old Angela Williams of Fairborn.
No one else was injured.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan says the company is working with investigators.
State investigators will review the shooting in the Dayton, Ohio, suburb of Beaver Creek.
