Police dog bites officer during foot chase

Two teenagers are in custody after crashing a stolen van into a gate late Thursday.

That was near East Pine Street and North Yukon Avenue at the end of a short police chase where the suspects had tried to run away from police at about 11 p.m.

A Tulsa police canine bit an officer who was on foot and in pursuit of the boys.

"The officer who was in pursuit started chasing them on foot. A police canine had jumped out and joined the chase. The officers received some dog bites from the police dog," said Gary Kruse at the News On 6.

He tells us one of the 15-year olds had taken his mother's van without permission and she called police.

We're told it wasn't the first time that the boy had taken his mother's van without permission.

Previously, "the boy actually dragged his mom down the road when he drove off the car. This time, she wasn't going to put up with it and called police when he took the van," Kruse said.

The dog bites that the officer received were treated at the scene about 11 p.m. Thursday.

We're told that the van sustained some major damage that may not be repairable.
