Panel approves online renewal of handgun licenses

OKLAHOMA CITY —

Oklahomans who want to carry a handgun may soon be able to get their license with the click of a button.

A bill approved Thursday in a House committee would allow individuals with a handgun license to renew it online.

The bill by Broken Arrow Republican Rep. Mike Ritze is dubbed the "Modernization of Self-Defense Act Application Process of 2013." If approved by the new House Calendar Committee, the measure will head to the full House for a vote.

The Oklahoma Legislature last year approved a bill that allows an individual with a handgun license to carry their firearm either concealed or displayed openly in a holster.
