Oklahoma woman in Hawaii talks missile alert scare

KRMG has new information regarding a false ballistic missile alert in Hawaii on Saturday.

Allison Hassler, a Booker T. Washington High School graduate, has been working in the state for the last two months. She received the alert over her phone.

“That the missile was headed here,” Hassler said.  “I wasn’t sure to take it seriously or not and it looked like it was the real thing.  I was really worried.”

A lot of people took shelter wherever they could.  Hassler points out she has some experience with shelters after living in Oklahoma, but there is a huge difference between tornadoes and missiles.

"You know, I'm an Okie. You think of the tornado warnings that we've all prepped for. Finding the center of your house or something like that. But honestly, I don't know what you do when you think a missile is coming for an island," Hassler added.

Officials report the mistake was human error. In fact, two buttons were reportedly mistakenly pushed to set off the alert.
