Oklahoma family loses everything in fire on Thanksgiving

Henryetta Officer Theran Richards and his family were having a wonderful holiday on Thursday until their garage caught fire.

The flames spread to the rest of the home and destroyed their vehicles. Richards tells us he felt helpless.

“It moved so fast and the water hose was already burnt,” Richards said.  “I was stuck.  I couldn’t do much.”

So, Richards made sure his wife, five children and parents made it out safe.

“I kicked everybody out of the house and told them to run to the car or the street,” Richards said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We do know the home is a total loss.

Henryetta and Okmulgee police are collecting items and money to help the family recover.
