Off duty firefighter injured after police chase ends

A police chase ended with two people injured Monday afternoon.

Police tried to pull over the suspect for not wearing a seat belt near Pine and Yale about 1:30.

It was just after the lunch hour when officers say the driver raced through a nearby neighborhood at close to 70-miles-per-hour.

The officer called off the pursuit when the driver entered the neighborhood.

The suspect smashed into a car and a truck dragging a trailer and tractor. An off-duty district fire chief was in the truck.

There’s no word on his injuries.

The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
