Occupy Wall Street debit card about to debut

The Occupy movement seemed destined for the scrap heap with little to show for the effort before the announcement by the Occupy Money Cooperative.

The group says the new card will provide "a protest with every purchase," and will "directly tackle the concerns of the unbanked and underbanked."

The New York Times reported on the prepaid Occupy debit card, saying it's the first product of the money cooperative.

The cooperative claims the card will carry a clear and affordable fee structure including a $1.95 charge for each ATM withdrawal and 99 cents balance inquiries.

"There is no profit here," a cooperative member told the Times.

But not everyone buys that or the claim this was the next step to solidifying the movement.

"Too much blood, sweat, and tears have been going into Occupy to have that turned into a piece of plastic," one said.

The card also got some attention because Visa will be processing transactions after refusing to do the same for WikiLeaks.
