Number of West Nile virus cases reaches 123 in Oklahoma

Health officials say five more West Nile virus cases have been reported in Oklahoma.

According to statistics posted on the Oklahoma State Department of Health website Thursday, 123 cases have been reported. That's up from Tuesday's count of 118, which set a record for the number of West Nile cases in a single year in Oklahoma.

The state Health Department says seven people have died from the virus so far in 2012.

Officials warn that favorable conditions continue for the spread of West Nile. Residents are urged to wear insect repellent and to drain any standing water from their yards.

The state says adults over 40 are the most at risk for contracting West Nile.
