It’s brand new for a major newspaper. But with the upcoming legalization of marijuana in Colorado, The Denver Post saw an opening in the budding industry, and took it.
“I’m happy to announce that Ricardo Baca has been appointed the editor of the marijuana website we are building,” News Director Kevin Dale said in a memo.
Dale continued “Ricardo will be working with editors and reporters in every department to ensure the site is lively, authoritative, in-depth, and educational and packed with content spanning regulations to reviews.”
In a question and answer portion of The Post, Baca made it clear he isn’t just a token reporter, saying he has experience with the folks who partake.
“I’ve covered concerts for a living over the last 15 years. That means hanging out with musicians, working with people in the industry,” he began.
Baca continued, “though I’ve never been a full-on stoner, I’ve shared concerts and conversations and late-night sessions at the bar, and had Twitter wars with thousands of them.”
The paper says they won’t stop there in covering the industry. The Post would also like to add a freelance pot critic and a freelance pot advice columnist to their staff.
