Neighbors: Mom told them her son "might hurt me"

More information about what led a young man to kill his mother has begun to come out now that police have arrested the son and another man for the killing.

Investigators say Henry "Hank" Laird, 17, had a history of domestic violence involving his mother Linda Laird, 56, whom they say he beat to death with the butt of a shotgun earlier this week.

Talking with neighbors, KRMG has learned that she had hinted darkly about what went on inside the Laird home in a quiet, south Tulsa neighborhood just southwest of E. 71st St. and S. Yale Ave.

A couple who lives directly across the street says the people who sold them the home last Spring told them about Hank Laird, warning them that he had a bad reputation.

"They thought that he was troubled, and that he could be a threat to her," meaning Linda. "I guess they were concerned about their own safety, asked her 'would we be threatened?' and she said 'no, he would never hurt you, but he might hurt me.'"

But they rarely saw him. "We've lived here since April and I've never seen a boy over there, ever," they told KRMG, "so he didn't go to school or have a normal routine, he was just in the house, I guess."

Laird was arrested late Wednesday afternoon on a first-degree murder warrant after a brief standoff with police.
