Nearly 10 percent of cancer survivors still smoke

The information comes from a new study that found that one in 10 cancer survivors continue to light up after having beaten the illness.

The American Cancer Society reports one in 5 deaths in the US are related to smoking. The study, published today in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, shows that people who had fought bladder and lung cancer still smoked at the rates of 17.2% and 14.9%, respectively.

Researchers suggest that those who continue to smoke even after beating cancer likely caused by the bad habit do so because they either can’t beat the addiction or they are unaware of the treatment methods available.
