Call it local boy makes good, call it radio guy hitting it big. No matter what you call it Billy Madison is back in Tulsa, and in a big way. Billy and his crew took to the air Wednesday morning at the new Rock 103.3 FM, formerly Star 103.3. Madison got his start in Tulsa radio, branched out to San Antonio and was syndicated from there.
Now he's back on what is essentially a new radio station and he's thrilled. "I can't tell you what it means to be in Tulsa" he said, ”three of our guys made babies there so I guess that's pretty important." Billy's roots in Tulsa go deeper than just being on the air. "I still have a business there, I still own a home there, it's kind of a big deal for us" Billy noted.
Dena Fletcher is the program director at rock 103 she told KRMG News Billy and his crew are “just really funny.” Fletcher said listening to Billy's show is a lot like being in a fraternity "it is kind of like guy talk just four guys sitting around, but I'm a female and I like it too."
Billy talked to KRMG News and told us that being back in Tulsa is a dream. “I can’t tell you, I can’t even put into words how great it is to be back in Tulsa” Billy beamed.
Madison told KRMG News his show can be simply summed up as "just a bunch of idiots really, just four idiots sitting around trying to make people laugh." But it turns out Madison’s goal is really a little bit deeper. "Make people forget about the bad things in their life, that job they hate, and we try to make you laugh on the way to work" Billy explained.
The show and the format change for Rock 103.3 comes as longtime KMOD morning hosts Phil and Brent call it quits after 27 years in Tulsa radio. Their departure leaves a gap that Madison and the rest of the Rock team hope to fill and fill well.
The Billy Madison show will air from 6:00 am-9:00 am weekday mornings on the new Rock 103.3 FM.
