Mother suspected of killing her five year old with salt poisoning

Garnett Spears was five years old when he died due to high sodium levels in his blood.

While Garnett was struggling for his life, his mother Lacey called a friend and asked her to go into their home and throw away a feeding bag she used for the child.

Spears and her family say she loved her son and did nothing wrong.

Lacey Spears little boy was in and out of hospitals and doctor’s offices his entire life. Lacey chronicled every move on Facebook and Twitter requesting prayers for her “little prince.”

But police in Valhalla, New York are now investigating because they think she poisoned Garnett and may have been responsible for many of his other illnesses.

The Journal News reports when Spears's friend got the request to throw away the bag, she thought more about it and called police.

It's believed Lacey has Munchausen by proxy, a psychiatric condition that leads a parent to hurt their own child in order to gather sympathy and attention to themselves.

Other holes in Lacey’s “world” are coming to light.

When Spears babysat for a friend, she posted pictures of that child on the internet with captions saying, "My World My Everything," and claiming he was her son.

The former friend also confirmed her son often had ear infections during that time, but they stopped occurring when Spears no longer took care of him.

She often wrote about Garnett’s father, a police officer named Blake. She claims he died in a car wreck, but friends say he never existed.

No charges have been filed as police wait for an autopsy report.
