NORTH PORT, Fl - A bizarre scene greeted first responders inside the Budget Inn.
Along with the body of Linda Smith and two live capuchin monkeys, investigators found an incoherent man.
"There was no obvious signs of trauma to Smith's body," a cop told CNN. The unnamed man was given medical treatment, and officers expect to question him as soon as possible.
The Herald-Tribune reports, “Florida residents must complete 1,000 hours of training and provide two letters of reference before becoming permitted to own a capuchin monkey.” Officials say there are less than 50 “licensed capuchin monkey owners in Florida.”
A wildlife worker told the paper the monkeys are in good health and "normal protocol would be to place them with a licensed permit holder.”
