Emergency medical workers thought the 72 year old woman had been killed when she was in an accident.
A car driver by one of the woman’s grandson’s strayed into oncoming traffic and was hit head on, killing two people in the vehicle.
Emergency workers on the scene found no signs of life and declared her dead. That’s when things got odd.
"What exactly happened next, no one knows," a spokesperson for the hospital in Germany said. What's clear is the woman was taken to the morgue.
But several hours later a worker there saw the woman breathing and alerted medical personnel.
She was rushed back to a hospital and underwent several hours of surgery. She is alive but remains in a coma.
The woman’s daughter and grandson were the two people killed in the accident.
