18-month-old drowns in a pool

An 18-month-old girl drowned in an above ground pool Wednesday evening.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol say Lakelyn Thornell was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital in Sequoyah County.

The toddler had been wearing a flotation device, but between numerous trips from the pool to the house and back again, the flotation came off.

OHP say there were numerous adults at the home, but they were unaware the toddler had returned to the pool.

The victim was found laying face down in the pool around 8 p.m.  OHP say she was given CPR until help could arrive.
