Nigel’s owner, Darren Chick, says Nigel was a terrific bird with a proper British accent when he went missing.
Nevertheless, when the African gray parrot came home, he spoke only Spanish.
Julissa Sperling found the bird. I'm from Panama and he was saying, 'What happened?' in Spanish," she told the Daily Breeze.
“We put him in a little cage and brought him with us to the store,” she continued. “He was the happiest bird. He was singing and talking without control. He was barking like the dogs.”
Julissa went to work to find the parrots owner, eventually coming across records showing Chick was that person.
“So I showed up at his house and knocked on the door,” Micco began. “I introduced myself and said, ‘Have you lost a bird?’
At first Chick said no, thinking she meant recently.
The initial re-pairing of Nigel and Chick didn’t go well. The bird bit Chick, but now things are fine.
“He’s doing perfect,” Chick beamed.
