Millions of your tax dollars could be spent upgrading Tulsa's bus system

More than $15 million of your tax dollars could be spent to upgrade Tulsa's bus service.

The City Council and Mayor Bartlett are being asked to approve $15 to $17 million in capital improvement spending.

That money would fund bus rapid transit service along the Peoria Avenue corridor from 36th Street North to East 81st Street and South Lewis Avenue.

The proposal comes after an exhaustive planning study by INCOG, Tulsa’s regional transportation planning agency.

Bus rapid transit (BRT) is a term applied to a variety of public transportation systems using buses to provide faster, more efficient service than an ordinary bus line.

KRMG is told that the goal of these systems is to approach the service quality of rail transit while still enjoying the cost savings and flexibility of bus transit.
