Middle school student sent home for "support our troops" shirt

Cejai Taylor’s father is on his sixth deployment out of the country and she was showing her support by wearing a shirt that simply says “Support our Troops.”

The school usually requires students to wear collared shirts but opens one day per month for jeans and school-approved shirts.

But “graphic T’s without a collar” are not allowed and she was asked to change or go home.

Here’s the kicker. The school is on the Fort Campbell Army Base.

Cejai's mom Cassandra told WZTV in Nashville she decided to pick up her daughter rather than make her change.

Cejai’s father, Sgt. James Taylor told her “he’s very proud of me for standing up for what I believe in, and he can’t wait to see me.”

Department of Defense education system spokesperson Cindy Gibson says patriotic shirts have now been added to the list of approved clothing.
