Throughout the mayoral campaign, one of the hot topics has been the city’s green waste controversy.
Residents have been paying for a service that would allow residents to bag up yard waste, like tree branches, leaves or grass, and have it picked up and taken to a mulching plant and recycled.
It was discovered that the machine that was supposed to remove the bags containingthe waste wasn’t working. And the waste was being burned and not recycled.
Mayoral candidate Kathy Taylor says she would, as mayor, refund Tulsans the money they spent on a service that wasn’t happening.
Yesterday, Mayor Bartlett pitched an alternative idea to the trash board. Bartlett recommended that residents not be charged for a period of time for the green-waste disposal.
The trash board hasn’t discussed the idea yet, but they did talk about refunds. Very few members of the board were in favor of issuing refunds.
