40 marijuana plants discovered during house fire

(OWASSO, Okla.)  – Firefighters were called to an Owasso home near 106th and N. 145 E. Ave. Tuesday night around 10:00.

Fire crews discovered a hidden room in the attic and what police describe as a large marijuana cultivation system and several marijuana plants.

The homeowner told FOX23 he has no idea how the marijuana got into his house.

Police said he admitted to the illegal grow operation and gave consent for his home to be searched.

Officers recovered a complex hydroponic grow system, grow lights, 40 marijuana plants, bags with dried marijuana, scales, a loaded handgun and over $8000.00 in cash.

Investigators are still looking in to the cause of the fire, but it may be a faulty ballast box on the grow lights.

The case will be handed over to the Tulsa County District Attorney.
