Man wants US treasury to reimburse him for money his dog ate, then pooped

Wayne Klinkel was not happy about losing the five $100.00 bills his golden retriever named Sundance chowed down on.

So he decided the thing to do was go through all of the dog’s droppings, collect the pieces and tape them back together.

Wayne and his wife were on a road trip to visit their kids when they left Sundance in the car while they grabbed a bite to eat. Turns out he was hungry too.

When they came back to the car and found out what happened Wayne told the Independent Record his first thought was “you dumb SOB.”

Then, he began to out together his scheme to be patient and try to recover as much of the cash as possible.

Klinkel did wash the leftovers before he tried to put them back together and sent them to the Treasury Department's Bureau of Engraving and Printing with an explanation of what happened.

The bureau's website says an "experienced mutilated currency examiner" will determine if at least 51 percent of a bill is present and eligible for reimbursement. The process can take up to two years.
