It’s a story of everything going wrong.
First, the shopping bag Lynette Freis was carrying broke allowing a heavy can to fall on her foot.
The can broke one of her toes and left a cut that became infected.
The infection quickly spread despite treatment with antibiotics and surgery.
Then almost a year after the incident, the Nebraska woman died.
Now her husband William is suing Wal-Mart and the maker of the shopping bags they use.
The suit claims Wal-Mart doesn’t properly train their employees how to bag and says the bag was overstuffed and defective.
The Journal Star reports Fries says the bag was greatly overfilled, holding a two pound bag of rice and two 42 ounce cans of Asian food.
Freis is asking for just under $700,000 in medical expenses and an unknown amount for pain and suffering, and reimbursement for his wife’s funeral and burial expenses.
