Man running from gunfire is shot, taken to hospital

Gunfire in south Tulsa near 71st and Riverside gets a man shot while trying to run away.

Several 911 callers reported hearing numerous gunshots near the Riverbank Plaza Apartments at 6500 South Newport Avenue about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

"While running away from those sounds of the shots (he) felt the impact in his foot and went down," Tulsa Police Captain Mike Eckert said.

He tells us the victim was taken to the hospital.

We're told witnesses described a black male shooter who was wearing black shorts and carrying a shirt.

Eckert said that the victim did not see the shooter and was not able to identify him.

Police searched the area thoroughly including the use of a police helicopter, but did not find the suspect.
