The kidnapping was highly unusual for more than its length.
Pedro Portugal was held for 32 days. He was beaten, had teeth broken and his tormentors even burned him with acid. They tried to get his family in Ecuador to pay a ransom of $3 million.
Then they gave him cake for his birthday.
Portugal was simply walking to his car when he was nabbed last month and taken to a warehouse in Queens.
Police in New York were able to decipher the crime when they got a call from Portugal’s family.
They decided to take a look at travel records and see if any bad guys had been travelling between the US and Ecuador near the time he was taken.
That led them to check records and find a warehouse in Queens had been rented at about the same time.
Cops went there and looked around disguised as inspectors and they found Portugal.
Three men are under arrest and police say they are looking for others.
