A house fire destroyed a Tulsa home while the homeowner was in church on Sunday.
When a neighbor called Phillip Smith yesterday to tell him that that his house was on fire, Smith worried that his wife might be inside the burning structure.
Smith said that he was "very anxious" when he arrived at home to find smoke rolling from the house and the garage door had been knocked out.
"I ran around to the back window and started banging on it," he said.
Firemen told Smith that his wife and dog had escaped to a neighbor's house and were not injured.
"Right now I'm a little bit in kind of shock and disbelief. I'm really not sure what's going to happen next. You never think this is going to happen to you until it does," Smith said.
There were no reports of injury.
Fire officials tell us that two nearby water main breaks may have resulted from fighting the fire yesterday in east Tulsa.
