Man accused of punching officer, jumping off bridge

A man accused of being high on a synthetic drug assaults a police officer before jumping off a Tulsa bridge early Saturday morning.

Police say the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. at the Riverside Bridge at Highway 75 and 244.

Officers were called out to the scene when a witness saw the suspect acting like he was going to jump off a bridge.  Police say an officer arrived and found a man who was thought to be the witness.  Instead, it was the suspect who turned around and punched the officer and then took off running.

Police say the man then jumped off the bridge.  The suspect wasn't seriously harmed after jumping to the street below.

He hasn't made it to the Tulsa County Jail yet.  Police say he's still in the hospital.
