Lunch with the Candidates: Bill Christiansen

Bill Christiansen has been a Tulsa city councilor but there is something else he thinks makes him the best person to lead the city.

“I think it’s a great advantage for me having been a small businessman for over 40 years in Tulsa, Oklahoma to become the mayor.”

Christiansen was the first to declare his candidacy and the first of our “Lunch with the Candidates” interview.

Dan Potter and Rick Couri asked Christiansen to name the most important issue facing the city. He didn’t hesitate to answer.

“Public safety is really paramount in my mind” he began

“Public safety is really the foundation of a city and public safety is really economic development.”

Christiansen also named aging streets and bridges as key issues.

There are now five candidates race including former mayor Kathy Taylor and incumbent Dewey Bartlett.

With so much experience in the race, Christiansen thinks he’s the best person for the job because he looks at it differently.

“Every day I go to my business I try to think about ways to save money, to be more efficient.”

Bill told us he’s learned there is one way that can carry over to City Hall. “It’s all in getting along with people, it’s all in respecting people.”

And he hopes the campaign stays focused on the issues and not the personalities.

Bill smiled when he put that thought another way. “I hope the mud stays on the ground and not in the air.”

Hear our entire conversation with Bill here and stay tuned as we talk to Kathy Taylor on Thursday and Dewey Bartlett on Friday.
