The seven year old Border Collie named Laddy went missing from his home in Iowa a few days back.
His owner Cynthia Weeks told the Quad-City Times the battery went dead on the invisible fence system allowing the pooch to escape.
Weeks said Laddy loves chasing things, especially squirrels so she figured he followed something out of the yard.
The homeowner whose tree the dog climbed heard barking from an unusual place "I heard a whining, and I knew something wasn't right. This time, it sounded in distress," he said.
That led him outside where he found Laddy about 10 feet up in the tree.
After a call to the cops in which he had to convince the dispatcher he was serious the cavalry arrived and rescued Laddy.
Rescuers found some blister type injuries on the bottom of his feet but that seemed to be the only issue.
Cynthia says the canine as seemed glad to be home. "He was pretty subdued when he got home," she says. "He's been doing a ton of sleeping."
