TULSA - A judicial candidate in Tulsa is under fire from a local Veterans of Foreign Wars group for claiming to be related to an American war hero.
Jon R. Patton is running to replace Kurt Glassco as District Judge.
On his campaign website, one reads that "Jon Patton like his family before him feels it is a duty and an honor to protect our country and the values we hold dear."
Immediately below those words, there are two photos of Gen. George S. Patton of World War II fame.
His campaign logo features four stars; George S. Patton was a four-star general.
Doug Bagby, with VFW Post 577 in Tulsa, says they did some checking into Jon Patton's family tree.
"If you go to Ancestry.com and check it all out, there's no way he's related," he told KRMG.
"To me, that seems like if you're going to be dishonest enough to say that and try to do that, then what else are you trying to hide? Are you truthful even in what you're doing?"
KRMG has called Patton's law office in Tulsa, we have his response and will follow up tomorrow.
Bagby says all the VFW asks is that Patton prove he's related to the famous general, or stop implying that he is.
