Dianna Hanson’s father called her “absolutely fearless.” That may have cost her life. Hanson entered the lion enclosure at the big cat sanctuary called Project Survival's Cat Haven.
Hanson has been an intern at the facility since January and was one of two volunteers at the park yesterday.
Fresno police learned that the normal procedure is to leave food in a separate, protected enclosure, then leave that area and let the animals in.
The big cats, including lions, tigers, cheetahs, and jaguars were scheduled to be fed at noon, police got the call about the incident at 12:30.
Workers at the park say Hanson should never have been in the enclosure with the animals and they were unclear as to how or why she got there.
The facility has been open for more than 20 years with good grades from inspectors.
