Legendary Tulsa BBQ restaurant opens new downtown location

If the smell of a wood smoker makes your mouth water, you might want to head downtown and hang around First Street.

Albert G's Bar and Q cut the ribbon Wednesday on its new location, just east of McNellie's.

Owner Chuck Gawey has made quite a reputation for killer "Q" at his original location near 28th and Harvard, which has stood for more than 20 years.

That restaurant is a quick service concept, but the new downtown location is full-service, with a bar that offers 20 brands of bourbon and 20 types of beer.

The building has stood for more than a century, but has also stood empty for decades.

That gives it a unique feel, with an open skylight and raw brick walls.

The food is just what one would expect from Albert G's, but with additions not found at the original location.

They plan to stay open until 11:00 p.m. for now, but may extend those hours depending on late-night traffic.

Sawey says they have a small private room, which can seat about 35 people, which includes a 60-inch HDTV which people can hook into from their laptops for parties or business meetings.

The new restaurant is located at 421 E. 1st Street, downtown Tulsa.
