KRMG listeners react to Tulsa City Council pay raise vote

KRMG listeners are speaking out after hearing our story about Tulsa City Councilors voting themselves a pay raise.

Currently, councilors are paid an annual salary of $18,000. The pay raise councilors voted for would increase that by $6,000 to $24,000 per year.

Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett still has to approve the raise at which point it would be placed on the November ballot to be approved by Tulsa voters.

If approved by voters, the raise would take effect at the start of the next city council term.

Some KRMG listeners aren't pleased with the proposed pay hike. Comments KRMG received include:

"With the economy the way it is, people are cutting back and they want to increase their pay?"

"I work for the City and I didn't get a pay raise this year."

"They're getting a $6,000 raise? That's too much!"
