Kids are more at risk than adults when temperatures soar

Kids are especially at risk when temperatures rise. That's the word from pediatricians at Hillcrest Medical Center.

Dr. Scott Cyrus tells KRMG that kids exhibit the same symptoms as adults, with one key difference. Cyrus says, "With children, they can happen so much faster. Children's skin is thinner. Their surface area is larger. They can get overheated rather quickly."

Dr. Cyrus recommends that kids take frequent breaks indoors and drink plenty of fluids. One suggestion that Cyrus has is popsicles.

Something that many parents forget, according to Cyrus, is sunscreen. Cyrus recommends reapplying sunscreen often to keep kids from getting a sunburn. "You don't want to add insult to injury, " Cyrus says.
