Your things to do calendar gets a boost with some free stuff this weekend. Josh’s Sno Shack is a Tulsa tradition in the summer. Summer is the key word there. Saturday’s projected high for the Tulsa area is in the mid 50’s, not really sno cone weather, or is it?
“We decided that everyone should get a taste of summer in the middle of winter” Josh Juarez told KRMG news. Josh is the man behind the sno, and the idea. “We decided to give out free snow cones this Saturday: he told me as we stood inside his 71st and Garnett location.
A wise man once said there’s no such thing as a free lunch so there has to be a catch here, right?
Not really, the sno cones really are free but along the way Josh is hoping to showcase a charity he has recently become involved with. “New Hope, I’m very passionate about it and we’re going to try to raise awareness” he said.
You won’t have to donate or even take home any information about the organization but Josh is hopeful many will. “We invest in kids who have a parent in prison” Juarez explained.
“Oklahoma actually has one of the highest female incarceration rates so that leaves a lot of kids without parents.”
Josh told us the event will take place in the afternoon. “We’re starting at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday here at 71st and Garnett and it’s going to go until 4:30 p.m.”
And if you get there fast enough, you get an extra treat. “Chick-Fil-A will be handing out sandwiches to the first 50 people” Josh explained.
“I’ll be walking around handing out free T-shirts, talking about the charity if anyone wants to know about it and making sure everyone remembers how amazing summer is” Josh added.
Josh’s normally has hundreds of flavors but with all the free ice slinging they will trim it down on Saturday. “In order for us to be able to hand out 500 snow cones in an hour to an hour and a half we’re going to have to flavors” Josh noted.
Those flavors are “Josh’s mix and blue raspberry as well as sugar free for anyone who wants that.”
