Intoxicated woman leaves young child in unlocked car

A concerned citizen alerted Tulsa officers to a dangerous situation outside of a 21st and Yale Neighborhood Walmart late Tuesday night.

Police say they were told a young child had been left alone inside a car, while a woman went inside the store.

When officers arrived at the scene, the child was still in the car.  Police say the vehicle was also unlocked.

A short time later, they spotted Katrina Lawson staggering toward the vehicle.  Her speech was said to be slurred, and there was an odor of alcohol on her breath.

Police say Lawson admitted to taking Xanex and Ambian.  Plus, she admitted to drinking vodka before driving with the 3-year-old child.

Before being taken into custody, Lawson told officers she had only driven a short distance, and she left the child in the car because she wasn't going to be gone long.

Lawson was taken to the Tulsa County Jail where she faces counts of child endangerment and public intoxication.
