Intoxicated man assaults wife, threatens neighbors

An intoxicated man was taken into custody after attacking his wife, cutting his mother-in-law, and threatening his neighbors.

Tulsa police say they arrived at the apartment near 56th and Peoria and were immediately told by a crowd of people Erick Cortez-Hernandez had a knife and was threatening people.

A few moments later, they confronted Cortez-Hernandez who was still holding the knife.  He did go into custody without incident.

Officers then spoke to his wife, who told them he arrived home drunk and angry.  She said he pushed her, and injured her child.

Police say she then left the apartment with her child.

The suspect soon followed and began try to pick a fight with neighbors.

Police say he met his match with one of the neighbors, who punched Cortez-Hernandez in the face.  The suspect then went back into his apartment, grabbed a knife, and returned outside to fight.

A short time later, his mother-in-law arrived and tried to take the knife away from him.  She was cut during the struggle.

He then began waving his knife at his neighbors until officers arrived.

The El Salvadoran suspect is currently in the Tulsa County Jail, where he's a hold for ICE.  No mugshot is available.
