Grand Champion steer brings $35,000 at Tulsa State Fair auction

Auction day is always filled with excitement for the young men and women who show cows, pigs, sheep and goats at the Tulsa State Fair.

Today was no exception for the 2012 Junior Livestock Auction.

The Grand Champion Steer was raised by McKenzie Strickland with the Tecumseh FFA. Her steer is a Maine-Anjou steer tipping the scales at 1,320 lbs.

Bidding on the steer started shortly after 11 A.M. today. When the auctioneer's gavel fell, LC Neel took home the steer with a winning bid of $35,000.

Tulsa State Fair officials tell KRMG that Neel has purchased nearly every Grand Champion steer since the 1970's.

The Grand Champion win isn't the first award Strickland picked up this fall. She was also named one of her high school's homecoming queen candidates. Tecumseh High School officials tell KRMG that announcement will be made at the school's football game tonight.
