Golf Channel amateur event coming to Page Belcher

Nearly 200 amateur golfers from throughout the nation will converge on Tulsa for the Golf Channel's  2014 Major Championships Schedule Event: The Sooner State Showdown.

The tournament will be held May 3 and 4, at the Olde Page and Stone Creek courses at Page Belcher in west Tulsa.

Organizers expect to fill at least 300 hotel-nights in Tulsa.

Workers believe the event will generate $18,000 or more in fees and other sales at the golf course itself.

Tom Wolff, manager for the Page Belcher and Mohawk public golf course, says, “We are really happy to be chosen for this tour because it goes to pretty much the top echelon of public courses nationwide,”  Wolff said.

Amateur golfers can join the Golf Channel’s “I AM the AM Tour” and compete in events on a tour conducted much like professional golf circuits.

Players are matched by skill level.

Players can earn points toward qualifying for the 2014 National Championship events scheduled at Grayhawk and Talking Stick Golf Clubs in Scottsdale, AZ, in September.

The field for the Tulsa event is already full, Wolff said, but golfers interested in competing on the tour can get additional information at www.gcamtour.com.
