Washington, D.C. - Eight power players including Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn meet this week in hopes of avoiding tax increases.
They met behind closed door amid high stakes and high secrecy.
A guard at the other end of the intercom shooed reporters away.
“Hi, are you allowing reporters into the gang of 8 meeting?” asked a producer with the KRMG Washington Bureau.
“No we are not,” the guard replied.
“OK, thanks anyway,” the producer said.
Behind a metal gate, the so called "gang of eight" senators met.
They're trying to find a way to cancel tax hikes scheduled to take effect early next year.
Congress has not been able to find a way keep taxes low without raising the deficit.
