TULSA - Police say four people who tried to fill a shopping cart then run out of a Tulsa Walgreen's without paying landed in jail on Memorial Day after a short police chase which ended in a crash.
The initial 911 call came in about 6:15 a.m. from the Walgreens near E. 51st St. and S. Sheridan Road, according to dispatchers.
Police Sgt. Malcolm Wightman tells KRMG the first officer arrived on the scene in moments; in fact, he found one of the suspects still there.
He arrested Brian Hall, 44.
Moments later, another officer spotted a white pickup truck which matched the description and partial tag given police by a store employee.
The chase wound its way through a neighborhood at moderate speeds, and two of the suspects bailed from the truck, Wightman says.
They were caught, police say, and identified as April Wright, 33, and Michael Sanders, 47.
Meanwhile, the driver attempted to navigate through someone's back yard but managed to get the pickup stuck, then tried to run for it on foot.
Officers quickly ran down the fourth suspect, Shane Rider, 39.
Asked whether the people were armed, Sgt. Wightman said he could not comment.
No one was injured.
At least some of the suspects had felony warrants, Wightman said, and all four were going to jail.
