Co-founder of Ice Bucket Challenge drowns

Corey Griffin was a friend of Pete Frates, the man who inspired the “Ice Bucket Challenge.”

Frates suffers from ALS and when he appeared on video nodding his head to the Vanilla Ice tune “Ice, Ice Baby” while asking people to donate money to ALS it spurred an idea.

Griffin helped take that moment and turn it into millions for the organization.

Saturday, Griffin was in Nantucket, Massachusetts at an event that raised over $100,000. Just after 2am, Griffin jumped off a building into the harbor.

Witnesses say he resurfaced briefly before disappearing. His body was found later by a lifeguard.

"He was in paradise," a Griffin's father, Robert, told the Boston Globe. "He was so happy to be able to help."

Frates paid tribute to his friend by saying "helping out was nothing new for Griff. He worked his butt off these last few weeks for ALS.”

Frates continued, “we texted every day, planning and scheming ways to raise funds and plan events."
