Ann Smith Bartlett, former First Lady of Oklahoma and mother of Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett, has died.
The mayor issued a brief statement, saying simply: "My family just lost the best mother we could have ever hoped to have. She was a woman of incredible grace. Our family was with her when she passed from this life, and she was at peace."
Ann Smith, a Seattle native, married Dewey F. Bartlett, Sr. in 1945 shortly after his return to the U.S. from his service as a combat pilot during WWII.
They moved to Tulsa the next year, and he worked in the petroleum industry.
He became governor in 1967 and served a single term, then was elected to the U.S. Senate.
There is no word yet on a memorial service for Mrs. Bartlett.
