Flood of gun permit seekers forces extended hours at sheriff's office

Second Amendment fans now have some extra hours to get fingerprinted for their handgun permits in Rogers County.

Sheriff Scott Walton tells KRMG that a huge increase in demand prompted extended hours at his office. Walton says, "When I started four years ago, it was surprising if we'd see ten in a day. Now we've exceeded 40 in a days and this is a continuous increase."

The Roger's County Sheriff's office is staying open late Tuesdays and every other Saturday and Sunday to take fingerprints for permits. Walton says these slots are limited and will be by appointment only. You are encouraged to call (918) 342-9700, extension 141 to make an appointment.

Walton cautions potential applicants that fingerprinting is subject to cancellation at any time due to staffing or technical problems without notice.  Walton apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
