The car was sitting at a stop sign when the van crossed into the wrong lane. It hit the car, flipped into the air and landed on top of the Honda.
Two people were declared dead on the scene and two more at a hospital but the fifth victim, a child, wasn’t found until after the car had been towed away.
"Due to the extreme structural damage, the victim was concealed and could not be accessed/seen by emergency personnel," a statement from the Sheriff's Department said.
Police in Hesperia, California told the Los Angeles Times the driver of the van had minor injuries. He was treated and released at the scene. No one has been arrested but an investigation into the cause of the wreck continues.
