The Freeman family was enjoying a leisurely fishing outing on Smith Lake when the symbol of America swooped down and tried to steal the bait on their line as they were casting.
The eagle wasn’t hooked but did get tangled in the line and couldn’t get loose.
Fishing guide Bubba Sorensen told AI.com “I’ve caught a lot of things in my life, but not a bald eagle.”
“I hope I never catch another one.”
Mike Freeman described what seemed to be out of a sci-fi movie “It just yanked him out of the sky.”
The family took pictures and video as the men got the eagle to the boat and untangled the leg.
Once free the bird made its way to the shore, dried its wings with a few large flaps and then took back to the sky.
