Firefighter helping old lady in snowstorm goes viral

It was a simple act of kindness, and it’s made Firefighter Tom Faucher a viral sensation and hero.

Faucher was working his shift in Manchester, New Hampshire when he saw an elderly woman struggling to cross a street in the blizzard like conditions left by the latest winter storm.

Faucher told WMUR-TV, “I just asked her how her day was going and ‘How much further to you have to walk?’

He said the woman answered ‘I’m doing good. I just got to get back across the street and I’ll get on my way.’”

So Faucher and his crew blocked the road with their firetruck and he jumped out to help her make it across safely.

An off-duty firefighter was watching from his home and took pictures of the moment.

The story exploded and now all of Engine 6 find themselves the target of a mountain of praise they don’t really think they deserve.

Lt. Steve DesRuisseaux said, “whether we’re on duty or off duty, I assume everybody would do the same thing, help somebody out when they need a hand.”
