TULSA - Tulsa firefighters brought a major blaze under control Tuesday evening.
Firemen were called to the Petroleum Equipment Institute at 6514 East 69th Street at 9:16 p.m.
Tulsa District Fire Chief Roger Williams said that when fire fighters arrived on the scene, the fire was travelling across the roof of the single-story structure so quickly that the attempt to fight the fire from the inside of the building was not effective at all.
"We put two master streams onto the fire and went into defensive operations at the front of the building and the back of the building."
He said the fire was extinguished after about thirty minutes.
We're told employees had left the building about two hours before the fire started, so no one was injured.
Williams said ice had formed on the parking lot from the cold weather, but the firefighters were able to avoid slipping and falling.
Damages to the building and its contents were estimated at about $500,000.00.
Williams said fire investigators will determine the cause of the fire.
