The 1,500 pound granite bench with atheist quotes and statements from the founding fathers will be hoisted into place next month at the Bradford County Florida courthouse.
The group American Atheists is behind the monument and says it is being placed "to compliment the Ten Commandments monument that is already there" according to a Facebook event invitation to the unveiling.
The non-profit group sued last year to have the Ten Commandments monument removed from the same courtyard.
American Atheists president David Silverman said in a press release. “There is no secular purpose for the monument whatsoever and it makes atheists feel like second-class citizens. But if keeping it there means we have the right to install our own monument, then installing our own is exactly what we’ll do.”
The monument will make its debut June 29th.
